Time for school trips should be increased to take up 10 per cent of the academic year, despite the risks involved, according to an influential independent school head.
The recommendation in this week’s TES from Anthony Seldon, master of Wellington College, comes as teachers, pupils and parents come to terms with the latest school trip tragedies.
This week the body of Aaron Goss was recovered from a rainforest river in Ecuador. The 17-year-old had gone missing while swimming on a trip organised by Wollaston school, Wellingborough.
Last week Jessica Hiam, 17, suffered serious neck and spinal injuries following a parachuting accident in Wiltshire during a trip with Great Barr school, Birmingham.
