Knightswood Secondary in Glasgow, home of the Dance School of Scotland, is keen to enrol more boys for its musical theatre course, which started this year. The course attracted 13 girls but only one boy, Paul Connor, who says: “It’s a great course and I would recommend it to any youngster interested in the stage.” Pupils continue normal school studies and have specialist lessons in dance, drama and singing.

“We know the boys are out there,” says course directo Graham Dickie, “because the Scottish Youth Theatre has loads. For any boy wanting to move into theatre, our two-year course will give them a good grounding. All of the six students graduating this year have been offered places in major establishments down south.”

Applications for next year are still open to pupils now in S4 or S5. Contact Knightswood Secondary School, Musical Theatre Course, 60 Knightswood Road, Glasgow G13 2XD, tel 0141 954 9124.
