Cap that fits

Jenny Mitchell rewrites history to justify her own views when she complains about your use of "handicap" (TES, November 8). "Handicap" has nothing to do with begging after the Napoleonic wars. Its origins are much older, being from "hand in cap", a 17th-century game of chance.
