The Geographical Association is holding its annual conference at the University of London Institute of Education, Bedford Way, London WC1 on April 2-4. There will be a wide range of lectures, workshops, seminars, field visits, social events and a large exhibition of geographical resources. Wednesday April 2 is primary day, and also features the finals of the GA’s Worldwise Quiz at the School of Oriental and African Studies.

Professor Peter Hall will deliver the GARGS-IBG lecture on “Four World Cities” - London, Paris, New York and Tokyo at the turn of the 21st century. Lectures will also be given by Fiona Reynolds, director of the Council for the Protection of Rural England, by SCAA on future developments for geography, and by Professors Richard Munton and Philip Stott on “Sustainable development”. MP Gareth Wardell will give a view on “The Geographer in Parliament”.

There will be practical sessions on Thursday April 3 at University College London on GIS, Earth observation and water quality. On Friday April 4 a collquium of academic geographers and teachers will examine “Bridging the higher educationA-level chasm. There will be an international reception on Thursday in the new Brunei Gallery.
