Black author and historian Mike Philips has selected maps, books and newspapers for Caribbean Views: a Personal Journey, an exhibition on the British Library’s Collect Britain website. Using the themes of sugar, slavery and the making of the West Indies, the site reflects on life in the English-speaking Caribbean during the 18th and 19th centuries. It explores the slave trade and the lives of plantation owners and slaves and the abolition of slavery in 1834.
