"It's not that we are expecting teachers to do extra work at home," she said. "On the other hand, that is where real learning can take place in peace and quiet, giving teachers time to try different approaches."

The Government is already committed to subsidised loans to help teachers buy a computer, using part of the pound;39 million allocated to Scotland by the Chancellor in March to step up ICT for learning in schools and communities.
