Carole Ford hit the curricular nail bang on the head

Carole Ford makes some fair points about Curriculum for Excellence - that top-down organisation of it has been poor, for example. But there are also some errors, most notably the criticism of inter-disciplinary learning.

CfE is potentially a huge improvement on the system it replaces, but its implementation has bordered on the incompetent. The organisational structures are not in place to allow us to exploit effectively what should be a chance to make the education of Scottish pupils a much more successful experience.

Look at literacy. At present, every school in every local authority is developing its own systems for tracking progress through the Es and Os, when any rational observer can see that these issues should have been resolved well in advance to allow teachers to teach (a remarkable idea, I know).
