A YOUNG offenders’ establishment has been praised for an incentive scheme that has transformed the behaviour of inmates.

Sir David Ramsbotham, chief inspector of prisons, praised Werrington Young Offenders Institition, near Stoke-on-Trent, for offeing privileges in return for good behaviour. Gameboys and videos have helped to transform the establishment, described by Sir David 18 months ago as a disgrace. Outdoor expeditions organised by staff also helped improve behaviour and morale.
