Teachers across Canada have welcomed the Supreme Court decision to uphold their right to use force to preserve discipline.
The Canadian Teachers’ Federation had asked the court to exempt parents and teachers who use “reasonable” force from charges of assault.
The case, which began four years ago after a US tourist, who had spanked his five-year-old in a car park, was acquitted of assault by an Ontario court, has been closely watched by both teachers and parent groups.
