I wish to clarify two points made in “New degree ‘must not become a Masters Lite’” (TES, June 27). The masters in teaching and learning will initially be made available to teachers in the North West from September 2009, but the timing of the national roll-out is still to be decided.

As to whether it is not clear if the pound;30 million a year funding will cover the cost of schools obtaining supply cover - this is not so.

The Secretary of State announced on March 7, 2008 that the DCSF will fund participation in the programme through the Training and Development Agency for Schools - including the costs to schools.
