Government standards unit chief Michael Barber’s article (“Word is out - the KS3 strategy is a winner”, TES, March 30) said little about the crucial need to link key stage 3 topics and the key stage 4 curriculum.

If teenagers’ performance at GCSEis more dependent on how they respond to the fresh key stage 4 curriculum content than it is on historic key stage 3 results, then it’s a little premature to talk about “winning”.
