A pound;100,000-a-year post of schools commissioner is to be created to champion trust schools and academies. The commissioner, who will be employed as a civil servant based at the Department for Education and Skills, will match up schools to partners and link sponsors to academies.
The move comes amid fears that interest in backing the schools is fading in the wake of the “cash for peerages” row. The successful applicant will be responsible for making sure admissions are fair.
