Children are invited to audition for Scottish Ballet’s associate programme, which provides classical ballet training for boys and girls.

No previous experience is necessary but candidates should show an aptitude for movement, co-ordination, a sense of rhythm, lots of personality and an appropriate physique.

The junior associate scheme offers specialised training to children entering P6 and P7 and acts as a feeder scheme for the Dance School of Scotland. Children attend weekly or monthly classes at Scottish Ballet’s headquarters in Glasgow. They follow a two-year course of study in ballet, national dancing and creative movement and on occasions may be asked to perform with the company.

The senior associate scheme is designed to enhance the training of students in S3, S4 and S5 of intermediate standard and above. Places are offered for one academic year; the course is spread over three terms.

The closing date for applications for the junior scheme is April 23 (auditions will be held on May 22 and 23) and for the senior associate scheme is April 30 (auditions to be held May 29). For more information and application forms contact Anne Stephen, tel 0141 331 2931.
