STUDENTS can see their history work on television and win prizes for their school and teacher, through “Our History, My Heritage”, a joint initiative by English Heritage and the History Channel.

The scheme particularly welcomes research on community and family histories, a valuable resource for future generations, although it is open to history work in all areas.

It will also provide a means for teachers to incorporate citizenship, history, geography, English and ICT national curriculum strands into pupils’ research. Winning entries from each key stage will be made into short films and broadcast next year as part of the History Channel’s A Small Piece of History programme.

Eligible schools are being mailed direct this month, and entry packs will be available from September. Teachers who submit their class entries by December 21 will be entered into a prize draw to win one of 10 weekend breaks.

Full details will be available on www.HeritageEducation.net or tel: 020 7973 3442.
