Aimed at key stage 4, J8 (modelled on the inter-governmental organisation the G8) is a global initiative enabling pupils to put their citizenship learning into practice and address key world issues by attending the J8 summit. As a spring term project, J8 is running a competition where the winning schools will debate key citizenship issues and share their opinions about topical concerns with the G8 leaders. To enter the competition, each team must prepare a communique about either climate change or Africa as well as supporting information for this document. The closing date for the competition is May 20. To support citizenship teachers, the site gives economic, geographic and political information about the countries that make up the G8, as well as downloadable case studies and fact sheets in pdf format. A free teachers’ resource pack can be ordered.
