‘Charitable status’ review is granted

The umbrella body for private schools has been granted a judicial review of the guidance schools must follow in order to keep their charitable status. The Charity Commission’s “public benefit test” appears to oblige schools to provide more bursaries for poor pupils, but the Independent Schools’ Council argues that other ways of benefiting the community should also count.
