Jobless post-probationers.

weegoose: I am curious to find out what probationers who haven’t secured a post for next year are planning to do. I honestly can’t make my mind up. Some days I think I will just try to find a job doing something else that I can get stuck into and attempt to make a career out of it. Other days I decide I will try to get some nursery work to stick in with the childcareeducation side of things. Then, of course, there is supply.

Si N. Tiffick: Something might come up - your cohort is in a much better position than those of us who lost to the system, as the Government is actively trying to get you into jobs to make their stats look good. There have been jobs advertised this year but most of them are going to this year’s probationers.

laurenzo99: I am keeping my fingers crossed for my last few options (waiting to hear back from interview and another one tomorrow).

SavvySaz: Only things going in my area are 0.2 or 0.4 posts which, let’s face it, don’t come close to paying bills.

hippy-chic: Best piece of advice given to me . “There are jobs if you are prepared to move” (to a different local authority or country).

MezzoMix: Couldn’t agree more. I have seen many jobs advertised for my subject(s) up and down the country. From August I will be working 2.5 hours away from home. My husband cannot commit to a move just now and my contract will only be for a year. I will live in the town I’ll be working in Monday-Friday and come home at weekends. Don’t let the jobs come to you, go out and find the jobs.

pinktea: It’s all well and good to say you move to the jobs, but there are plenty of people (such as myself) who have children who are settled at school, who are single parents, could be moving somewhere completely unknown, childcare is unknownmay cost more, already tied into rental agreements etc.
