Sometimes you wonder ...
Dominie: Academies down south will be able to hire “experts” instead of teachers. It seems to me that a great deal of the problems in current education could be sorted if classroom teachers were actually supported by the politicians, bureaucrats and parents in their attempts to make kids do things which, being kids, they don’t actually like doing but which they nevertheless need to do.
CanuckGrrl: The old adage that teachers love to hate, “Those who can, do; those who can’t, teach”, is on to an important truth: top-drawer expertise is not necessary to pass on skill and knowledge, but expertise in passing on skill and knowledge is absolutely necessary.
leesey: Any chance this is in any part a result of Jamie Oliver’s programme that was on last year - Jamie’s Dream School? Lots of celebrity “experts” imparted their expertise on some children, and made a farce of the job that real teachers do. Once again public opinion of what teachers do is completely diminished.
Flyonthewall75: It would be foolish to believe that this could not happen in Scotland. OK, we have the long-established GTCS and the chief executive spoke out against the East Renfrewshire (sic - Renfrewshire) proposals to set up a cheaper model for the provision of primary education.
