Teachers are to take a key role in a new internet “age verification” scheme to protect young people from paedophiles masquerading as teenagers in chat rooms, and to prevent youngsters from accessing adult service such as gambling and pornography websites.

CitizenCard, a not-for-profit photo-card ID scheme, has created the scheme, known as Interactive Age Check, with the approval of the Home Office. Cards are free for under-18s and pound;7 for others.
