Chris Woodhead’s statements have one welcome aspect for any government; they distract from a problem that we have not yet solved: how to provide satisfying employment for all able to work in our society. Lifelong learning is a fine aim but does not always bring in a living wage.

In the meantime, keep the media distracted, Mr Woodhead....
