When Neil Flint joins Aspinal primary as its new headteacher in September he will have the school’s pupils to thank for his success.
A group of eight children helped governors interview six candidates for the post at the 230-pupil school in Manchester. The youngsters, aged seven to 11, had 10 minutes with each candidate.
They had consulted earlier with their classmates on the ideal qualities for a head and came up with questions including: “What’s the best holiday you’ve ever had?”
Mr Flint, currently deputy head at Poplar Street primary in Tameside, said:
“I thought it was really impressive. The children took it very seriously.”
Sue Hardy, personal, social and health education co-ordinator at Aspinal, said: “The governors asked the expected questions but the pupils tried to find out about each candidate’s personality and how they responded to children.”
Miss Hardy gave the pupils’ comments to the governing body at lunchtime to help them decide which three candidates to shortlist for the afternoon interview.
