One in three children lives in poverty, according to Divided Britain, a report published this week by Child Poverty Action Group. A total of 4.2 million children come from families earning less than 50 per cent of average income, the report says.
Only 10 per cent of children were living in poverty in 1979, but the group warns, “The Labour party has yet to convince us that the trend will be broken if they win the election.”
