Fred Naylor argues that the values clarification “disease” will lead us to telling children that “they have a choice about whether to lie, cheat and steal” (TES, July 5).

Surely it is precisely because we do have freedom of choice in such matters that there is a need for “spiritual, moral, social and cultural development” in the first place.
