Schools should be able to choose which local education authority they buy their services from, as a means of increasing competition and efficiency in local government.

That is according to one of the eight entries shortlisted in a competition by the right-wing think tank, the Adam Smith Institute, to find ways of saving the taxpayer money.

Peter Taylor, of the Bristol Business School, argues that LEAs tend to over-supply services and charge too much. He says that schools should choose the LEA they think provides the best services and should pay by results.
