Chris Woodhead, chief inspector of schools, has called on teachers to “rediscover the importance of competition”. Speaking in Harrogate, he said children should be working against each other as well as with each other. “We should reject this cosy egalitarianism which has adversely affected the life chances of our children,” he said.
