Church launches abuse inquiry

LORD Nolan is to chair an independent review of child protection and the prevention of abuse within the Catholic Church in England and Wales. The review body will examine existing arrangements made by the CatholicChurch for child protection and make recommendations, although it will not report on individual cases.

Between 1995 and 1999, 21 Catholic priests were convicted of sexual offences against children.
