CILT sets up in Belfast

A Northern Ireland Centre for Information on Language Teaching and Research, has been set up by its London-based sister organisation, CILT, at Queen's University, Belfast.

Supported by the Department of Education for Northern Ireland, it will promote a greater capability in languages in the Province by offering publications, training and advice to language teachers.

NICILT will provide a resource centre containing materials and software for consultation; organise in-service training events, initially concentrating diversification in language provision and the use of information technology.

Peter Neil, NICILT's director, says: "Diversification is not taking off as much as we would like, so we will be researching into it."

He hopes the network will also help leading practitioners in Northern Ireland share their expertise with others in the UK.
