AN all-party Parliamentary group looking into the illegal practice of female circumcision has called for tightening of the law, especially to close the loophole which allows girls to be sent abroad for the operation.

More than 3,000 girls are believed to be ircumcised each year and an increasing number of operations are being carried out in their countries of origin in the school holidays. The number has increased following a rise in the number of refugees from Somalia, where the practice is commonplace.
