Pupils could draft their own list of human rights and then compare it with other ones. Ask them what rights would be given to a sentient race of humanoid robots, as in Steven Spielberg’s film AI.

At KS3-4, the scope could be wider; pupils could debate the extent to which “human” rights should be extended to robots. The bigger question of what does it mean to be human might also be raised.
