The horror of Auschwitz can help us learn about prejudice, racism, political ideologies, responsibility, and so on in the UK today. What could we learn from American Indian history?

Use the article and the internet to make a timeline of events to give to pupils. Explore ideas and opinions through questions and dialogue. What went wrong? Who was to blame? What were the real causes of so many deaths? Challenge pupils in groups to list their top two causes (eg, greed and prejudice).

Can these causes of suffering still be seen in the world today? Are there connections with local or international news stories from places such as Iraq and Tibet. Using their own conclusions, groups might write a speech that an MP might read in the House of Commons about how we should treat people in other countries.
