Citizenship goes up in smoke

After your article and correspondence on Focus Learning Trust schools (Letters, TES, April 8), I should be interested to hear Ofsted’s assessment of the citizenship element of their curriculum. I live in an area with a large Brethren community, and the attitude of their children towards non-Brethren citizens can be described as at best anti-social, and at worst contemptuous.

Where children are being indoctrinated with the view that the world and its inhabitants are evil, it is understandable that they have no trust for anyone beyond the boundaries of their own community. This manifests itself regularly with non-Brethren children being taunted with comments such as “You’re going to burn in flames when you die.”
