Pupils could be presented with lots of negative evidence about alcohol consumption drawn from this article and other sources. They could participate in an initial vote on a total ban. Subsequently pupils could analyse the claims made for alcohol in types of advertisements and consider the effectiveness of complete prohibition today, eg in some Muslim countries, and in the past, eg the US. Pupils could then participate in a debate and second vote on a total ban, considering how and why they might have changed their minds.
