City College Plymouth has become the newest member of the 157 Group of colleges in the UK.
The college is now the group’s 28th member, following the announcement in January that Cardiff and Vale College was joining - the first institution to join up following the organisation’s strategic review.
City College Plymouth was graded good in its latest inspection, and has this year been nominated for two TES FE Awards: apprenticeship programme of the year, and FE leader of the year for Sue Reed, head of work-based learning at the college.
‘We share the same mission’
Principal Phil Davies said: “At City College, we work extremely hard to build and sustain mutually favourable partnerships with leading local, regional and national employers. To have that hard work recognised by such an influential group is simply marvellous, and we can’t wait to get started supporting the 157 Group in their mission to transform professional and technical education and support the UK’s productive economy. After all, their mission very much reflects our own.”
Ian Pretty (pictured), chief of the 157 Group, said: “I am pleased to welcome City College Plymouth as the newest member of the 157 Group. City College Plymouth is a pillar in its region with excellent employer engagement and apprenticeship programmes and an exciting plan for investing in a new Stem Centre of Excellence.... City College Plymouth will make an excellent addition to our network of forward thinking, entrepreneurial colleges around the country and we look forward to working with them.”
