Children’s Classic Concerts has joined with the RSNO, writes Christopher Lambton

Children’s Classic Concerts is to join forces with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra for a new season of nine concerts across Scotland.

The first concert is on Saturday November 11 in Glasgow, and will be conducted by the RSNO’s music director Alexander Lazarev and presented by Paul Rissmann, the orchestra’s education officer and animateur.

Further concerts in Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Aberdeen run from December to March. Other conductors for the season include Garry Walker, recently appointed as the RSNO’s associate conductor, and Christopher Bell, who takes on the roles of presenter and conductor.

The partnership is intended to take advantage of cost saings in areas such as venue hire and orchestral fees, while for all other purposes the two organisations remain independent. Paul Rissmann says that the RSNO’s partnership with Children’s Classic Concerts allows the orchestra to give family concerts in addition to its full portfolio of education projects over the year.

For Children’s Classic Concerts, joint general manager Teri Hodgins says that although the RSNO provides the core season, “it is very important for us to be seen to be working with other orchestras”. It is promoting two concerts on September 17 by the early music group Fires of Love on the tall ship Glenlee, and a concert by Scottish Opera for Glasgow schools on October 26.
