Classics was among the first courses to be filled at summer schools this year, writes Adi Bloom. Pupils told an online discussion forum organised by the academy that they wanted more attention given to classics, including study groups on the internet.

The move follows the extensive hype surrounding Troy, the $200 million blockbuster released today, starring Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom.

“At the bottom of other subjects, you find the classical world,” he said.

“Gifted children want to know what underpins our culture. They want to understand how subjects work.”
