Primary schools are being encouraged to create their own classroom museum and enter the Campaign for Museums’ 2003 awards scheme.

To help develop children’s collecting instinct, teachers can apply for the resource pack A Museum in the Classroom, which also suggests curriculum links. Children must submit photographs and descriptions of how they created their museum. The closing date is March 31. A certificate and award of pound;250 will be presented to 10 schools for a class visit to the museum, science centre or heritage attraction of their choice. The awards will be announced in May.

The teachers’ pack and entry form are available by post (send an A4 sae and 66p stamps) from A Museum in the Classroom, The Campaign for Museums, PO Box 9995, London SW1W 0BP or online (without all the graphics) at www.campaignformuseums.org.uk
