Schools which are effective and innovative users of technology are being invited to compete for a pound;3,000 prize.

All primaries and secondaries that use computers to assist learning are qualified to enter the competition, run jointly by The TES and ICT provider Ramesys. Entries are invited at individual classroom and cross-school level. For example, French teachers who use the internet to communicate with schools in France would be eligible, as would schools that open up their ICT suites for community use.

Mark Simes, Ramesys head of education, said: “These things may not seem cutting edge, but to many schools they are. Often, the infrastructure is all there, but it’s not actually used in teaching. We want real-life examples of innovative ways ICT is used.”

Entries should be submitted by January 25. A judging panel, including Merlin John, TES Online editor, will choose 10 winners, who will receive pound;3,000 each.

Mr John said: “Considering that global networks are among the most interesting things happening in schools, it’s surprising that no award scheme has previously covered these areas. These awards are the perfect answer.”
