The tiny primary school on the Shetland island of Papa Stour has been forced to close because the mother of its only two pupils withdrew her children after falling out with Simon Calvin, their teacher. It is the third time the school has closed in three years.

Jane Walker was furious when she discovered that Mr Calvin had given a statement to police after her husband emptied a bucket of dog dirt over the local minister. Mr Walker was fined pound;600 at Lerwick sheriff court, after pleading guilty to the assault.

Mr Calvin is being redeployed elsewhere in Shetland. The Walker children are being educated at home.
