More than 2,000 people have signed a petition against the proposed closure of two secondary schools in Sheffield. Campaigners trying to save Wisewood and Myers Grove schools in Hillsborough took to the streets last week, with 500, including school staff, protesting outside Sheffield’s town hall.

The city council has proposed replacing the schools with one in response to falling pupil numbers. A spokeswoman said public consultation would continue until the end of the month and no decision had been made about the type of school which would be built.
