Clothed question

I applaud your efforts to help teachers to improve their appearance (TES magazine, March 2), although they do raise the issue of dress code for staff.

Acknowledging that schools in different settings have different needs, the first question I would ask staff is: “Would you accept what you are wearing if a student arrived in the same clothes?” I have seen many cases in which staff were dressed in such a way that the answer would have to be “no”.

Staff are role models and I would suggest that any staff dress code - and there should be one - should stipulate that the minimum quality of attire is that expected of pupils.
