We are amused by the crossword in the latest edition of the SEJ, the Educational Institute of Scotland’s house magazine: 21 Down is “Simon is more perplexed like everyone at the start”(6).

Surely this is not a reference to one S Macaulay, union assistant secretary? But it might be. The linked 20 Across is: “Provides mechanism to refute theory”(8).

Devious or what? The crossword, that is.
