Clustered

Help! The Plain English Campaign is needed in Glasgow's education department.

Parents in the city are being canvassed, via the schoolbag mail, for their views on school attendance. "Should the education department consider establishing parent officers in each school cluster (32)?" the department asks.

What is this "cluster" - a new term for a group of truants, perhaps 32 in number?

But directorate-speak finally triumphs when it enquires: "How can schools continue to raise parents' awareness of the impact on learning for individual pupils through persistent absence, truancy and latecoming?"
