Code warning to inspectors

The Office for Standards in Education has warned independent school inspectors against using their access to schools as a means to secure consultancy work. There have been three complaints from schools that inspectors have suggested they could provide paid advice to remedy faults they found during inspection.

OFSTED has reminded inspectors that the code of conduct forbids them from using their position to secure further employment. A spokeswoman said: “We have only had a few complaints, but we decided to act in order to nip it in the bud. It just seems to have drawn attention to it.”
