THE vice-principal of a Welsh college has been suspended because of an alleged “irretrievable breakdown” of his relationship with his boss, writes Ngaio Crequer.

Philip Wrentmore, of Carmarthenshire College, was suspended by the chairman of the board, Patrick Lithgow. He has been ordered away from his desk at the Graig campus in Llanelli.

A special committee of the corporation will investigate allegations against him.He is suspended on full pay.

Brian Robinson, the principal, said: “He has been suspended because there may have been an irretrievable breakdown in the working relationship between myself and him. We are still in the early stages of an investigation.”

Other members of staff have raised questions within the college about Mr Wrentmore’s management style. This is believed to be at the heart of the allegations.
