Senior figures from Coventry College are to change places with apprentices in a job swap taking place later this week.

On Wednesday, Sue Noyes, the college’s chair of governors, will be spending the day as an apprentice welder. Peter Brammall, principal and chief executive, is to leave his office on Thursday to try out life as a bus and coach engineering apprentice.

The job swaps, taking place to mark National Apprenticeship Week, will see apprentices take on the roles of college principal and chair of governors.

Coventry College offers more than 70 different apprenticeships, dealing with hundreds of employers, and has around 800 apprentices on its books.

‘A great insight’

Mr Brammall said: “I think it is important for me and other members of staff to step into the shoes of our apprentices for the day. It helps us to see what things we are doing right and also keep an eye out for anything that we feel could improve their experience here.”

He added: “It is all about learning, as well as showing our support to apprentices and recognising the value they have in the business world.”

Ms Noyes said: “Our apprentices are going to be getting a great insight into our work and we are excited to learn more about their work.”

She added: “This is about us as a board learning about apprenticeships and what we need to be doing for the future.”
