Commissioner dies at 51

Nigel Williams, Northern Ireland’s first children’s commissioner has died of cancer at the age of 51.

His achievements since taking on the post in 2003 included carrying out a large-scale investigation into the systems for vetting adults who worked with children. Mr Williams previously founded the charity Childnet International, which campaigned to improve child safety on the internet, and was also a board member of the Internet Watch Foundation.
