Pupils love competition, and nothing beats competing with their nemesis: the teacher. I used this idea for a review session of the Black Death with a Year 7 history class.

The basic idea can be used with any lesson, subject or year group. I displayed and read a prepared paragraph of about 150 words on the interactive white board about the causes and consequences of the Black Death.

This included 10 deliberate mistakes. Pupils were provided with a grid sheet on A4 paper and the paragraph on another. They wrote the mistakes on one side of the grid, and the correct information on the other. This maximised learning on two levels spotting my mistakes and producing a corrected version. A simple exercise to finish a tpic*
