To mark the implementation of the Government’s Human Rights Act, winning entries from 11 to 18-year-olds will be on display at launch events in London, Cardiff and Belfast on October 2. The competition, organised by the Citizenship Foundation for the Home Office and the Human Rights Task Force, requires schools and youth groups in England, Wales and Northern Ireland to illustrate through creative work “an aspect of the new culture of rights and responsibilities the Act will engender”. Entries may take the form of a sculpture, picture, song, video or drama. Closing date: July 28. Top prize is pound;5,000-worth of Canon equipment for the winning school. Primary schools are invited to submit, by June 16, a pictorial representation by their pupils of My Vision of Europe via the internet or e-mail. Paintings, drawings, digital images, web pages, photographs and other media are welcome. The competition has been organised by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office with Time Education and supanet. Twelve regional finalists will each win a TE internet-ready Super Primary PC with software and video-conferencing camera,while a 5-User network complete with printer and print server will go to the national finalist.
