For the annual Trading Standards Institute Young Consumers of the Year competition, teams of 14 to 18-year-olds from schools are tested on their knowledge of consumer concerns such as food and health, safety and the environment, travel, money and finance, credit and Europe. Heats are held for the regional finals in late spring and the final takes place at the TSI’s national conference in London. All finalists’ expenses are paid for their three days in the capital and the winning school receives pound;1,000 and a trophy. The competition is backed by the Office of Fair Trading.
