MISSION 2050 Thames Water is inviting young people in primary and secondary schools to design a house for the year 2050 during the autumn term, which will tackle the problems of water supply and demand. Closing date to apply for competition packs: May 28. Three winning pupils will win an iMac computer and their schools will receive pound;2,050. Thames Water will also undertake a free water audit to help these schools use water more efficiently. Details: 0645 200800.

PUBLIC AWARENESS OF PHYSICS A new award scheme from The Institute of Physics, which recognises and rewards the work of individuals or groups who have demonstrated excellence, inspiration and innovation in bringing physics to the public.
